Awakening launched!
So here's my submission for the 5th Extra Credits game jam.
It's a pretty simple, game mostly text based, and has a little amusing twist at the end. The theme for the jam is "Passage", which I took to mean the passage of time, hence the "guiding your people through the ages" part of the game. Of course, there's also the aspect where your people had to dig a passage to free you, but that one was more of a stretch.
There two versions of the game, one with scripted events and the other with randomized events. Personally I feel the scripted events version is more polished, and the progression flows better. However, once you know all the events the game gets predictable and repetitive. That's why I made the second version with the randomized events. It expands things a bit and allows for more replayability for the game, which I'm sure some of you would enjoy. It's a bit rough though, and given more time I feel like I could write better flavour text for that version. That's something that I could work on post-jam, along with better balance.
More importantly it marks my next step as a developer since I'm moving away from RPGMAKER and into Game Maker 2. I've been learning how to use the engine for the past few weeks and it's been great so far. I think my next game will also be made using Game Maker, and we'll see how things go from there.
